Equine assisted psychotherapy accesses deep emotional experiences that are suppressed by clients and generally not accessible by talk therapy. The interaction with the horse will reflect back to the client what they are struggling with on an unrealized level. The human therapist uses the client’s metaphors accessed in the session to bring the client to awareness of strengths, as well as solutions to their difficulties.
Overarching goal of the session is for the client to discover new information unavailable to them at a conscious level through talk therapy.
