Our Staff

Our staff therapists place deliberate emphasis on a holistic approach: mind, body and spirit. In a peaceful, homelike atmosphere, therapists at SCC make clearer the steps, and help point people toward reachable goals.  Our therapists are highly trained and experienced counselors with a minimum of a Master's Degree and are state licensed.

  • Gregory Kovacs, LMFT, Executive Director

    Greg is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  He has provided therapy and intervention for individuals, children, couples, and families since 1997, with experience in private practice, in-home therapy, Residential Treatment Centers, and outpatient clinic settings.  Greg earned a Master's Degree from the University of New Hampshire and is currently completing his PhD. in Child and Family Studies at Syracuse University.  His clinical specialties include research-to-practice issues, child behavioral difficulties, parent/child relationships, parental mental illness, parenting dynamics and the effects of daily routine and home environment characteristics on children and families.  Greg developed the Infant-Parent Psychotherapy Program at Samaritan Counseling and is committed to a treatment approach in which the growth and development of infants and toddlers are best understood and promoted in the context of family and community relationships.

  • Maggie Putman, MA, LMHC

    Maggie specializes in individual, couples and group therapy with adults. She believes that healing and growth are encouraged when one is allowed to safely explore family of origin and family system dynamics. Maggie’s special interests include working with survivors of sexual abuse and other trauma. She has also had extensive training in intensive experiential techniques for groups doing family of origin work.  Maggie has a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Chapman College and is an Associate Member of the American Psychological Association.

  • Gail Wernsing, LCSW-R

    Gail is a Certified Social Worker, licensed in New York State, who provides individual and couples therapy at the Center. She specializes in the area of alcoholism and other drug addictions, and related recovery issues, as well as anxiety, depression and issues specific to aging.  Gail received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Syracuse University.

  • James Goldstein, MS, MAC, CASAC, LMFT

    Jim is a Marriage and Family Therapist who specializes in working with children/adolescents with behavior problems, couples, families experiencing separation/divorce, children with ADHD, ODD and other chronic conditions, couples and families impacted by alcoholism/substance abuse, single-parenting problems, interfaith relationship and parenting issues.  Jim is a Clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, New York State Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, and a Master Addiction Counselor.  Jim obtained his Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from SUNY-Oneonta.

  • Lori Robinson, MS, CAS, LMFT

    Lori is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a clinical member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. She works with individuals, couples and families. Her specialties include treatment of anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, issues of adolescence, chronic illness, and couples wanting to restore their marriages after an affair. Lori is a Christian and incorporates Christ-centered principles and scripture into therapy at the client’s request. Lori received her Bachelor’s Degree from Wilson College in Pennsylvania, and her Master’s Degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from SUNY Oneonta.

  • Andrea Meier, LCSW

    Andrea is a Certified Social Worker who works with children, adolescents and adults. She has worked with preschool-aged children, as well as school-aged children and their families for the past twelve years.  During that time, she also worked with individual adults dealing with issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, and interpersonal conflict resolution.  She has facilitated numerous groups for children and adults on topics ranging from social skills to domestic violence.  Andrea received her Bachelor's Degree from Salem State College in Massachusetts and the University of New Hampshire for her Master's Degree in Social Work.

  • Leslie Jones, MA

    Leslie provides individual counseling for children, adolescents and adults. She has ten years experience working at St. Luke’s Hospital on the inpatient Psychiatric unit providing care for adults experiencing a wide range of psychiatric/psychological issues, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder.  Leslie is also a member of the American Psychological Association.  Leslie received her Bachelor’s Degree from Utica College of Syracuse University and obtained her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from City University in Bellevue, Washington.
